Competitions

Each choir will be adjudicated in Folk and Historical categories during public performances. Additionally, three optional competitions will be held in Contemporary Choral, Children's Vocal Solo, and Youth Vocal Solo categories. There is no separation of children's and youth divisions for the Contemporary Competition category.

The Festival does not provide accompanists for choirs or soloists for any competitions.

Community Concerts

The Festival will present several performances for the community in venues across the Bay Area. These non-competing, free concerts are wonderful moments to showcase your choir to the local communities.

Closing Gala Concert

At the end of the week of competition and collaboration, all choirs will sing at the Closing Gala Concert at Zellerbach Hall at the UC Berkeley campus. Awards will be presented to all competition winners, and these choirs and soloists will perform individually. The Massed Festival Choirs will present the culmination of their week of collaboration.

New Compositions & Special Prizes

An important objective of the Festival is the encouragement of new compositions for children's and youth choirs. Special prizes may be awarded for the best performance of a new composition, within the last two years, as well as for noteworthy conducting.
